What are kilt straps?

Kilt straps are the leather straps that fasten your kilt at the waist. They’re used every time you wear the kilt, so they take a lot of wear. Over time the leather stretches or cracks and the stitching loosens, and a weight change can mean the fit no longer works. That’s when a replacement set is the simplest way to bring a kilt back to life, without replacing the kilt itself.

Choose from over 10 sizes

We make kilt straps in over 10 sizes, so you can match the width and length of your existing straps or choose a new fit. Whether you’re making a ladies kilt which is best suited to our ¾” x 4 ½”, or want to know the most common kilt strap used like our 1 ¼” x6, we have plenty to choose from. Or if you’re not sure which size you need, measure your current straps and compare, if we don’t have a direct match we can suggest a size best suited to replace your current straps.

Extension straps for a better fit

If your kilt is just a little snug, an extension strap can add extra inches you need without altering the kilt. We make extension straps in two sizes, in the same choice of leathers as our handmade sporrans.

Every kilt strap is cut from the same quality leather we use for our handmade sporrans. That means you can match your straps to your sporran, belt and shoes for a coordinated outfit, or choose something that suits the kilt itself. Leather buckles for kilts in 5 finishes

For our 1" and 1¼" kilt straps you can choose from five buckle colours: chrome, antique, gold, black and antique brass. We sell buckles together with the straps, so you receive a matched, ready-to-fit set.

Pairing tip: match the buckle finish to your kilt pin, belt buckle or sporran cantle for a polished look.

Made to order, with stitch holes if you need them

Every kilt strap is made to order in Perth, so nothing is mass-produced. If you plan to sew the straps onto your kilt, or your kilt maker will, we can add stitch holes in the leather. Just tell us when you order.

How do I know which size kilt strap to order?
If you are new to kiltmaking we suggest using our 1 ¼ x 6” kilt straps that are the most frequently bought. If you are repairing an older kilt, please measure the existing straps on the kilt.

Can you match my sporran or belt?
Yes. Our kilt straps use the same leathers as our sporrans, so they’re easy to coordinate.

How long does a made-to-order strap take?
When purchasing kilt straps through our website, they will be dispatched 48 hours from ordering, this gives our artisans enough time to properly prepare any stitch holes or customization work that needs done to the order.

Can the straps be sewn onto my kilt?
Yes. We can add stitch holes so they’re ready to sew on.
